Stellios Technologies is building advanced power systems for defense, aerospace, fusion energy, and propulsion.
We are hiring an exceptional engineer to help establish our internal high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet development and manufacturing capability, with an emphasis on REBCO based high field magnets.
This is a hands-on engineering role. We need someone who can take a magnet from electromagnetic design through coil fabrication, cryogenic integration, testing, failure analysis, and iteration.
We are building magnets, not manufacturing superconducting tape.
What You Will Own
- Design of compact superconducting magnets, including the electromagnetic, mechanical, and thermal work
- REBCO coil winding, fabrication processes, insulation, structural support, joints, and integration
- Development of an internal magnet pathfinder station supporting coil fabrication, cryogenic operation, energization, instrumentation, protection, and testing
- Cryogenic systems, including conduction cooling, cryocoolers, cryostats, thermal interfaces, and the associated infrastructure
- Quench detection, protection, instrumentation, and operational safety
- Electromagnetic and multiphysics simulation, backed by analytical calculation and experimental validation
- Coordination with CAD engineers, machinists, technicians, suppliers, and specialized consultants
- Procurement and qualification of superconducting tape, magnet components, tooling, and test equipment
- Root cause analysis, design iteration, and the transition toward repeatable magnet manufacturing
Our initial program includes a reusable development station for both REBCO and HTS magnets and conventional copper and iron-return magnets, with a longer-term roadmap toward multi-tesla magnets for gyrotrons, fusion systems, and other advanced applications.
Who We Are Looking For
We care more about what you have personally built and made work than about your degrees, titles, or seniority. Strong candidates will have:
- Direct experience designing, building, and testing superconducting magnets or closely related high field magnet systems
- Hands-on experience with coil fabrication, winding, assembly, instrumentation, cryogenic operation, or magnet commissioning
- A strong understanding of electromagnetic design, mechanical stress, thermal behaviour, and failure mechanisms
- Experience comparing simulation against measured hardware performance
- The ability to own engineering work independently and collaborate across mechanical, electrical, and physics disciplines
- Excellent communication, engineering judgment, and a strong sense of ownership
Particularly valuable: multi-tesla magnet experience, REBCO winding and testing, HTS magnet system design, quench protection, cryogenic test facilities, and firsthand experience establishing a magnet development capability.
Relevant backgrounds include fusion companies, national laboratories, accelerator facilities, superconducting magnet manufacturers, and advanced research programs. We will consider exceptional engineers at different career stages, including experienced BS and MS engineers and PhDs.
This is not a primarily theoretical, tape manufacturing, or materials chemistry research position. We need someone who builds and tests magnets.
How We Work
Stellios operates with a mission-first, merit-first, AI-driven engineering culture. We expect extreme ownership, rigorous engineering, fast execution, intellectual honesty, and exceptional attention to safety.
Use AI aggressively where it improves engineering productivity, while independently verifying calculations and technical conclusions.
